This is a letter I was hoping I would never have to write.
Unfortunately, after serious and deep consideration by the Trustees, we feel it is no longer possible to continue the Charity beyond the end of our current Research Contract, which expires at the end March 2026. It has become increasing difficult to attract donations and without significant funds behind us, we are unable to carry on.
Without your unwavering support, we would never have survived 34 years researching Pancreatic Cancer, enabling us to deepen our understanding of how key chemotherapeutic agents can increase pancreatic cell death, uncover the mechanisms by which these cells die, and more recently focus on the critical genes involved in those pathways and their resistance to treatment- a major challenge faced by many patients undergoing therapy.
I am so grateful for all the incredible fundraising events which you have supported or taken part in; galas at the London Palladium and Shaftsbury Theatre, marathons, cycle rides and so many more. Many thanks also to the charitable trusts, Freemasons’ Lodges and Chapters and other similar organisations who have supported us.
Thanks to your donations, and since 2009 under the guidance of Dr. Androulla Elia at City, St George’s University of London, the Fund has advanced the careers of many budding scientists, whilst simultaneously trying to find a cure for a most debilitating illness. We wish them and Androulla, all the best for the future.
I am sincerely grateful for your generosity and support which made all this possible.
With heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes,
Virginia
